The Other Island

When her parents move the family to Fiji, 17-year-old Ria loses the place that had sustained her through her depression. On a sailing trip across two oceans, she begins to decide whether she wants to continue following her parents’ dream or seek her own path.

THE OTHER ISLAND is a coming-of-age documentary about the price of unconditional loyalty. The film tells the story of a young woman growing up in a family where her father’s vision shapes everyone’s life path. Her journey becomes an attempt to break free from this blueprint for life without losing her connection to her family, in order to regain confidence in her own life after battling depression.
